IT jobs in New York: support roles, pay, and city government jobs
The BLS counted 36,580 computer user support specialists in the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro area, which includes parts of New Jersey, in May 2025. Their median annual wage was $75,690, above the national median of $61,860, and a quarter of them earned less than $59,900 (BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025).
New York City government hires differently. The city says over 80% of its jobs require a civil service exam, and it posts jobs open for immediate hire at nyc.gov/jobs (NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services).
